Welcome to My Homepage!
My name is Ryan Moore, and this is my electronic portfolio. As you move through the links, you will get a better understanding of myself and my life experiences. But first, a little about myself:
I grew up in the small, northern Michigan town of Lake City. If you are looking at your left hand, making the mitt like all Michiganders do, Lake City is the first knuckle up from your wedding ring. My summers were spent on Lake Missaukee water skiing, fishing, and swimming. Winters were spent skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. After graduating from high school, I traveled to Mt. Pleasant to attend Central Michigan University.
While at CMU, I majored in Physical Science and English as I worked toward a B.S. in Secondary Education. Also while in college, I began working for a ferry company in Mackinaw City as a dockhand, deckhand, and dockmaster. I spent most of my seven seasons with this company working on their dock on Mackinac Island. Hence, the picture on this page. While there, I was fortunate to meet and work with individuals from around the globe. It was an experience I will never forget, and am very fond of the friendships I made while there. It was during this time that I finished college and began teaching.
Teaching brought me to Kalkaska, Michigan where I first student taught, then subbed and coached freshmen basketball. I left Kalkaska to take a high school English position in Cheboygan, Michigan. I would have stayed there except for an opportunity to return to Kalkaska to teach middle school science. This position, I would stay at for 12 years! I loved this assignment. The kids were fun to work with, and the staff was like a family. During this time I also was able to teach various sections of English, physical education, and computer applications. Additionally, I coached basketball during this time. Most importantly, I met my wife during this time.
In the spring of 2012, I took the leap and applied for a principalship in my district. I received the position and started my first year as a principal in the fall of 2012. The first year produced several unique challenges, and as I worked my way through them, I found I really enjoyed this new path I have taken. As this year begins, I have a staff that has been rebuilt due to retirements. I look out at the staff, and the students, and feel excitement toward the potential that this year has to yield. This year is going to be fun!
Now, after all that I have experienced, I find myself with a family of three young kids who love to travel and be outside. I feel that kids need to experience the world. Why stay at home when an adventure awaits you just around the corner? I hope, as you move through this portfolio, you will enjoy the life that I have been fortunate enough to experience. Enjoy!
